    “50 First Dates” Movie Review

    “Fifty First Dates” Plot Summary

Henry Roth is a man afraid of commitment up until he meets the beautiful Lucy. They hit it off and Henry think he’s finally found the girl of his dreams, until he discovers she has short-term memory loss and forgets him the very next day.

    Very sweet feel good film

I will admit right now, I am not an Adam Sandler fan. However, I found this film to be surprisingly enjoyable. It is sweet and cute in places, and while certainly not a masterpiece it is above decent. A vast majority of the jokes work here, and that was great to see. The camera work was good making good use of the gorgeous scenery, and the soundtrack was lovely. I had little problem with the performances; Adam Sandler gives of his more likable performances, and Drew Barrymore is the persona of sweetness as his love interest. Out of the supporting performances, Rob Schneider guarantees a number of laughs, and Sean Astin comes close to stealing the film in places. But it is the chemistry of Sandler and Barrymore that shines through despite the flaws that mar it from being more than enjoyable

While Dan Ackroyd has a small appearance, it is sadly one that isn’t particularly memorable. The plot isn’t exactly original, and certainly isn’t the most interesting one ever. And the script does have its ups and downs, and is predictable. Overall though, it is a sweet feel good film. It has its flaws, but it is a brave attempt at a romantic comedy, and mainly because of the chemistry of the two leads it mostly succeeds. 7/10 Bethany Cox

    “Big Daddy” Plot Summary

A lazy law school grad adopts a kid to impress his girlfriend, but everything doesn’t go as planned and he becomes the unlikely foster father. add synopsis

    One of Sandler’s funniest

Adam Sandler really began to peak in the 1990’s after he hit it big on SNL. He quickly was pushed into Going Overboard in 1989, which wasn’t terrible but wasn’t good either. Then he began to receive more work throughout then while people seemed to have a feel for him and he became well known, sort of how Seth Rogen is coming into his own now. Sandler really is well known for just playing a normal guy with such a short fuse that ends up getting into a major crisis. If you don’t believe me then watch this movie. It can be touching at moments and tear jerking for some of you out there, but for the most part this is a Sandler comedy that you don’t want to pass by.

    “The Wedding Singer” Plot Summary

Robbie, the singer and Julia, the waitress are both engaged to be married but to the wrong people. Fortune intervenes to help them discover each other.

A great fun film to watch for the whole family!

I was just watching the Wedding Singer last night on television. I still love this film for all its quirks. I love the fact that it was set in the eighties. Contemporary music and MTV with all its real world shows are not the same as in the eighties. I become very nostalgic watching this film. I remember all the songs, the Madonna look of the moment, the Rubix cube, Freddy Kruger, etc. It is hard to believe that it’s almost twenty years since 1985. It was much better in 1985 for me, I was still a child and there were always music videos on MTV. They weren’t just concert videos neither. They told little stories. I wished that we were still in the eighties with the music and culture. Besides all the eighties stuff, they never tried to outdo it in the film. It really is a beautiful, sweet love story between Drew Barrymore’s character, Julia, and the wedding singer, Robby Hart. I love the flight to Vegas and I won’t spoil the ending for anybody else. The scenes at reception hall were always a pleasure to watch and a great cast. I love watching fellow SNL–Jon Lovitz, Laura Kightlinger, Kevin Nealon, play even small roles. I loved Ellen Law playing Rosie. She was the best supporting character in this film. The fact that Billy Idol is also in it playing himself is another reason to watch. I wish there were films about the 80s.

    “Anger Management” Movie Review

    “Anger Management” Plot Summary

Sandler plays a businessman who is wrongly sentenced to an anger-management program, where he meets an aggressive instructor.

    Hilarious!

This movie was one of the funniest films in the first three years of the century. Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson were excellent in this film! I can’t believe that so many people criticized this film. I got this on DVD with low expectations. This movie exceeded my expectations. The basic plot line is about a timid businessman who has to undergo anger management because he got ‘mad’ on a plane. A scene that surprised me was when Derek Jeter and Roger Clemens play a very small part at Yankee Stadium. I was surprised because I was not expecting these two players to appear in the film. The chemistry between Sandler and Nicholson was great. The storyline was believable and the script worked. I also like the music played in this film. Fans of Sandler will be laughing at this film like they never had before. I give this movie a 9/10.

“Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” Movie Review

“Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” Plot Summary

An adaptation of the cult memoir of game show impresario Chuck Barris, in which he purports to have been a CIA hitman.

    Surprisingly Good!

Chuck Barris is in bits. His life has been a sham and after the crazy seventies and the start of the excessive eighties, after contemplating suicide, he decides to write down the bizarre tale of his unbelievable life. After being a joke at school and a joke in his teens to the opposite sex, he catches onto the idea that if you are part of the entertainment industry chicks will find you irresistible. After rising through the ranks of the burgeoning TV industry he is approached by a shadowy figure who asks if he’d be interested in helping his country against the forces of communism that threaten Europe, and could, if successful there, threaten the United States itself

For reasons best known to himself, Chuck decides to go for it, maybe for a laugh, maybe to see what the job entails, but as time goes by he realises that his moral flexibility and creative talents may well have found an excellent duel purpose. As he devises a variety of inane shows he finds it exceedingly difficult to mask his covert actions. Added to this he meets a beautiful young woman who seems to like him for who he is, which makes the disturbing secret that he works as a Government Spook as is responsible for a number of assassinations even more difficult to live with

As his life goes on and he becomes a star with the likes of the Gong Show, and his life as a spook is threatened by a mole on the inside Chuck has to delve within himself and figure out exactly what he wants to do with his life, and more importantly, not die

Now let’s cut to the chase here, this film is very good. Sam Rockwell is a revelation as Chuck Barris and his performance is so good it’s frightening. He is amazing in this role and bearing in mind how shockingly awful he was in Charlie’s Angels it makes of an even more surprising film. George Clooney’s direction is assured and well handled and the combination of his skills with the camera and Charlie Kauffman’s brilliantly realised script is something that you just don’t expect to work, but work it does. Clooney wisely elects to keep his supporting role to a minimum and it helps the piece tremendously, even a couple of cameos from close friends don’t spoil what is one of the best directorial debuts ever

Whether Chuck Barris’ story of his life is true or not, this is a top-notch movie that exceeds all expectations and is yet another cinematic masterclass from Charlie Kauffman that, in the hands of George Clooney, becomes another great movie about choices and identity

    “Mister Deeds” Plot Summary

A sweet-natured, small-town guy inherits a controlling stake in a media conglomerate and begins to do business his way.

One of Sandler’s best roles yet!

Adam Sandler in one of his greatest roles yet. The romantics between Deeds and ‘Pam Dawson’ were great. Keep your eyes on Emilio, he’s a very sneaky sneaky person. I don’t know how he does it. Steve Buscemi was great as Crazy Eyes. A definate must see for the whole family or as a night out with the girl/guy (gender pending).
