“Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” Movie Review

“Return Of The Jedi” Plot Summary

After rescuing Han Solo from the palace of Jabba the Hutt, the Rebels attempt to destroy the Second Death Star, while Luke Skywalker tries to bring his father back to the Light Side of the Force.

Greatest Cinematic Film Of All Time

Despite the feelings of most ‘Star Wars’ fans, in my opinion ‘Return Of The Jedi’ is the greatest cinematic film ever created. Ever since the first time I saw it, it’s depth, intensity, special effects, and moving story have overwhelmed me. The film was so well put together that it has been able to stand the test of time over the last 20 years. Filled with powerful action, as the climax of the original trilogy, George Lucas gives us a rousing finish of the ‘Star Wars’ saga in ‘Jedi’.Film Summary (Contains Spoilers For Those Who Have Not Seen It)After ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ left us hanging for 3 long years we finally find the end of the story in ‘Return Of The Jedi’. Darth Vader, in emotional turmoil makes a surprise visit to a new uncompleted Death Star to oversee it’s construction. The Emperor is first seen in this film as he has the ultimate plan to destroy the Rebel Alliance and bring young Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side. Luke, Lando, Leia, Chewie, and the droids all travel to Tatooine to rescue the frozen Han Solo from the crime Lord; Jabba The Hutt. After Han has been rescued, and Jabba defeated, Luke returns to Dagobah to find a dying Yoda where he learns the awful truth; Darth Vader is in fact his father. The rebel heroes regroup with the Rebel Fleet. Now joined by other species and races including the Mon Calamari the Rebels must make a all-or-nothing plan of attack to destroy the Death Star before it is completed. While Lando heads the space attack in the Millennium Falcon, the Rebel heroes must disable the Death Star’s shield generator on the Forest Moon Of Endor. It is here that the Rebels happen upon the furry, but mighty Ewoks. During the the two part intense battle, a third battle must take place as Luke willingly delivers himself to Vader in an attempt to convince him to leave the Dark Side. In emotionally charged sequences Luke must face his father as the Emperor lures out his dark emotions. As young Skywalker is about to face his death at the hands of Palpatine, Vader turns on his wicked master to save his son’s life. Filled with a deep timeless story of good vs. evil, ‘Return Of The Jedi’ is a spectacular, emotionally charged film that redeems the good in all of us.

“Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” Movie Review

“The Empire Strikes Back” Plot Summary

While Luke takes advanced Jedi training from Yoda, his friends are relentlessly pursued by Darth Vader as part of his plan to capture Luke.

    Best of the best

I cannot believe some people out there didn’t like this film, yet claim to have enjoyed Episode One. No comparison whatsoever. ‘The Empire Strike Back’ is George Lucas’ best contribution to human history, and it will be remembered long after most other science fiction films have gone the way of the Do-Do Bird. The optical effects still stand the test of time, and the acting is superb. Harrison Ford, Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher are all better than they we in the original Star Wars, having fully developed and grown into their characters, and the story just keeps going and going, from asteroid fields to swamp planets to cities in the sky, everything in this film works. So ignore anyone who claims to dislike it, and see it for yourself if you haven’t already done so. 20 out of 10!!Oh, and Han Solo shot first! =)

    “Doctor Zhivago” Movie Review

    “Doctor Zhivago” Plot Summary

Life of a Russian doctor/poet who, although married, falls for a political activist’s wife and experiences hardships during the Bolshevik Revolution. add synopsis

    Beautiful! …Warning, it’s long though.

‘Doctor Zhivago’ is a beautifully shot and told movie. The movie follows the main character for almost his entire life and a lot happens in that life! A bit too much perhaps, for ‘Doctor Zhivago’ is a long movie that is 3 hours+ long (depending on which version you’re watching). Best way to view this movie is in parts, that’s why I also have the feeling that the movie would had come better to its right if it had been made as a mini-series instead. Still ‘Doctor Zhivago’ is a masterfully done classic that in some ways is also a quite revolutionary one, from a movie technical point of view

The story is absolutely brilliant! I just love how in this movie lots of things and events are connected to each other. The story is truly what gives the movie an epic like feeling and is what makes this movie the classic that it is regarded as, present day. Leave it up to director David Lean to tell and film a great story. Before this movie he already showed those skills with classic movies such as ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’ and ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, which I regard as one of the best movies ever made

Visaully the movie is splendid. There are some good sets and beautiful landscapes that perfectly captures the mood and spirit of the time period the movie is set in. Further more the movie has some good make-up and costumes but the most brilliant thing about the look of the movie is the cinematography by Freddie Young and director/cinematographer Nicolas Roeg. Some of the cinematography is new and refreshing for its time and is truly an unique experience to look at

The movie is well casted. Omar Sharif is unforgettable as Yuri Zhivago and he plays the role of his life. Also unforgettable was Rod Steiger in the villainous role of Victor Komarovsky. Alec Guinness is also in this movie, teaming up once more with the director, David Lean

A lot happens in this movie and that’s the reason why the movie feels longer than it even is. This is my only real complaint about this movie and is the reason that prevents me from rating this movie with a perfect 10 out of 10.9/10

    “Star Wars” Movie Review

“Star Wars IV: A New Hope” Plot Summary

Luke Skywalker leaves his home planet, teams up with other rebels, and tries to save Princess Leia from the evil clutches of Darth Vader.

One of the most popular films of all time, and understandably so

I was never a ‘Star Wars’ guy growing up. I wouldn’t say that I was a ‘Star Trek’ guy growing up either (‘Doctor Who’ was my sci-fi franchise of choice growing up, and still is, even though I’m not a big fan of Russell T. Davies’ version of the show), but I would definitely choose my favorite episodes of the original series or ‘Deep Space 9′, ‘The Wrath of Khan’, and ‘The Undiscovered Country’ over any ‘Star Wars’ film. I’ve seen the original trilogy a couple of times previously, once as a kid, once in my mid-teens, and now I sit down to watch ‘Star Wars’ again, having been inspired by catching half of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ on TV recently and being enthralled by it

The first thing that struck me is how great the opening shot is, just after the scrolling text that is. The rest of the movie was pretty much how I remembered it being- a collection of great set-pieces and memorable characters, and a great mythology, but with a story which wasn’t nearly as grand and great as ‘The Empire Strikes Back’. Although a point of criticism aimed at ‘Star Wars’ by its (relatively few) detractors is that it doesn’t quite match the real feel of a 30’s/40’s serial, I think that it really does, and not only in the way it is shot and the transitional wipes and all that, but in the writing, the acting, and just about everything else. It has that same sense of adventure, and although this particular film is nowhere near as good as some of my favorite serials, it remains something which very accurately captures the feel of watching one of those, and its popularity (and the popularity of ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’) is hence quite understandable, as very few of even the big summer blockbusters have the same sensibility and sense of adventure, and well, fun

Watching ‘Star Wars’, in spite of it not being my favorite of the original trilogy, serves as a reminder of the talent which George Lucas had at one point. I don’t think this film is as good as his previous effort, ‘American Graffiti’, which is the greatest ‘coming of age’ film I’ve ever seen, and one of the most beautiful films ever made from a visual standpoint, but it’s still got spirit and energy which his later efforts just don’t. It’s quite sad, really. There’s really nothing I can say that hasn’t been said already (which is true, certainly of many popular films, but this is freakin’ ‘Star Wars’, so trust me, I have NOTHING to add to what has already been said). There are ‘Star Wars’ devotees who swear it is the greatest of the trilogy and one of the best movies ever made, there are detractors who think it’s cheesy nonsense, and then there are others like me who like it quite a bit, but aren’t sure where all the extravagant praise comes from. ‘The Empire Strikes Back’… Well, that’s a whole other story.8/10

    “Great Expectations” Movie Review

    “Great Expectations” Plot Summary

Modernization of Charles Dickens classic story finds the hapless Finn as a painter in New York pursuing his unrequited and haughty childhood love.

    A fairy tale for adults

The visuals in the movie are quite stunning, this is a movie to be savored, let it carry you away on a journey. It’s fantasy, yet so real. Who wouldn’t want to live this motto? Let desire be your destiny. Who hasn’t had their heart broken yet found it impossible to ever really stop loving their object of desire? Who hasn’t felt such an intense and overwhelming need for someone only to be cast aside by them. And then you see them again, and you would do anything for just one moment with them

This is a story of desire, love, envy, and pain. A story of searching for what one desperately needs and as soon as it comes within reach not knowing how to accept it, pushing it away. The great expectations we all have for ourselves, our future and for some reason deny ourselves ever actually receiving the rewards

There are lessons to be learned here.
