    “Eraser” Movie Review

    “Eraser” Plot Summary

A Witness Protection specialist becomes suspicious of his co-workers when dealing with a case involving high-tech weapons.

    Very Entertaining Action Film!

I beg to differ with those who berate this film. It’s one of Arnold’s best and so what if the acting isn’t Oscar quality, the film delivers non-stop action, like a boulder rolling down a mountain it never lets up. So what if there are believability problems in the script. If we didn’t use a little imagination there’d be no James Bond, no Star Wars, no Batman, no ET, no Lord of the Rings, no Transformers, etc. If you want believability watch Grapes of Wrath. So what if it’s not possible to dive out of Jet plane to chase down a parachute. So what if the villain doesn’t kill the hero the easy way. So what if Arnold demands a cheesy line in every one of his movies; ‘You’re luggage!’ to an alligator he just killed, is a small price to pay for a high energy, roller coaster ride of a movie. This movie is great in high definition with surround sound. Geez, why are people so damned critical! Don’t look for flaws, didn’t you come to the theater to have a fun time?

    “Highlander” Movie Review

    “Highlander” Plot Summary

An immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his immortal opponent, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled “Prize”.

    Great story told with heart

I can honestly say that Highlander is one of the most original and affecting stories I have ever had the pleasure of viewing, although sadly not in the cinema. The film has its flaws but the cumulative effect of all the various elements make this a film that is really like no other, and often imitated. There are many elements in the film that were experimental at the time, especially for a genre film. The editing style is much more painterly and nonlinear than what one normally expects. The integration of modern songs in a period setting was handled brilliantly, with the crowning achievement of the film being the ‘who wants to live forever?’ montage, which is an absolutely heartbreaking scene. Anyone who has ever truly loved someone will understand when you see it. One of the refreshing aspects of Highlander is that the movie is not just set up with an interesting concept and becomes a mindless action film from there, but that it actually comments on the questions posed by immortality. With Connor Macleod we are given a fantastic character who is brilliantly realized through Chrisopher Lambert’s complex performance. The change he goes through from young, innocent Scotsman to a sad, world weary antiques dealer is a wonderful achievement. I actually feel through his performance how lonely the life of an immortal must be, and how he keeps people at a distance whereas to not get too deeply involved. This film has it’s heart in the right place because it comments on the fact that when people lose everything they hold dear, in this case because Macleod will outlive everyone he cares about, they travel inward, cutting themselves off from the world in hopes that they will be spared the pain of seeing the ones they love die. From a story standpoint alone, this is a truly magnificent film, which isn’t to say it is lacking in other areas. The camera angles are very inventive and some of the transitions between time frames are jaw-dropping. The musical score by Michael Kamen is lush and romantic, while at the same time allowing for an integration with the songs by Queen that is a tremendously successful idea that in theory you’d never think would work right, but strangely it does so extremely well. There is a wide range of performance in the film ranging from Lambert’s subtle, understated interpretation of Connor, to Clancy Brown’s flamboyantly theatrical portrayal of the main Villain. Sean Connery also makes quite an impression as Connor’s mentor. He is both hilarious and charming, powerful and poignant. The female character’s are also handled very well with Conner’s first wife Heather being the standout. Highlander has a very odd sense of humor that seems to have come from improvisation from the actors. The entire film has a spontaneous energy that works very well because you never quite know what is going to happen next. This is not a perfect film, and sometimes it tends to fall back on genre stereotypes but the overall effect of the film more than makes up for it. Highlander is one of the more original films ever made, and sadly none of the sequels ever built on that. As far as the Highlander series goes; There can be only one, and this is it.

“The Long Kiss Goodnight” Movie Review

“The Long Kiss Goodnight” Plot Summary

A women suffering from amnesia begins to recover her memories after trouble from her past finds her again. add synopsis

    A Great Film

I disagree with the reviewer who said this film is not for the ‘cerebrally-minded.’ I happen to be somewhat the cerebral type, and I think this is a great film; I love it and have seen it many times

For me, the great things about this film add up to a woman with a full-on assertive, resourceful personality. Of course the drama is all about the wonderful mother and teacher discovering something else true about herself – and learning to merge the two once she ‘remembers herself.’ In the end, her love for her daughter and the tender nurturing person she is merges with the resourceful assertive person who is willing to fight and not give up. Even her daughter has taken on the ‘don’t give up’ when Mom is down. I would think there’s a part in many of us women that can relate to all of this. And that might explain the box office failure and the rerun hit: women had to discover what I imagine was billed as a pure action filmSamuel L. Jackson is his own type of hero, flaws and all, and nobody could say enough about him. He’s another complex character: down-to-earth with a street reality perspective, lower than the average poor man’s detective and fairly desperate himself. And yet heroic in the clinch and full of his own kind of love and respect for what he values in women. He’s just the man to take her on, and let her know when she’s -not- okay. The characters pair in a sort of perfectly out-of-the-box way. So, this ‘cerebral type’ says that this is great writing in terms of characters and storyline. And the violence is an integral part of those characters and story, not added flash or excitement that doesn’t tell us anything about their lives or the urgency of their experiences

And, last but not least, this is a comedy! Great dialogue (and I don’t know who else could have played it like Jackson). So take that glitzy action as part of what makes a comedy work here!

    “Ice Age” Movie Review

    “Ice Age” Plot Summary

Set during the Ice Age, a sabertooth tiger, a sloth, and a wooly mammoth find a lost human infant, and they try to return him to his tribe. add synopsis

    Ice Age is coming…

I watched ‘Ice Age’in the movie theater and I liked the movie. Spite of the fact that ‘Ice Age’has many flaws and scientific errors, like humans, sabers, dinosaurs and mammoths living at the same period, and even the location of where the story passes(looks North America, but has some characteristics from Iceland for example) we can have fun even so.(unless you are very severe!) The planet is entering an ICE AGE, and many animals are immigrating to the south where is warmer. Sid is a stupid Sloth that is left behind by his own family, that can’t stand him any longer

Walking in his way, he meets Manfred,or how he calls ” Manny” a moody mammoth who does not care about extinction or immigration and is going to the north. Worried that he can easily be captured, Sid decides to follow Manfred, and in the middle of their journey, they found a human mother with her baby. The mother dies but Manfred and Sid decides to take him and return the baby for the humans. Diego, one of the sabers, decides to follow and help them to go to a shortcut to the human’s camp. What Manfred and Sid does not know, is that Diego is from a saber clan who hates humans and wants to kill the baby, and also pretend to betray they both to make they become saber’s food. What will happen, will depend of Diego’s behavior and conscience…aka ‘A Era do Gelo’ – Brazil

    “Polar Express” Movie Review

    “Polar Express” Plot Summary

On Christmas Eve, a doubting boy boards a magical train that’s headed to the North Pole and Santa Claus’s home.

    Excellent Movie!

I found this to be an excellent movie. It’s one of my favorite Christmas movies. 10 out of 10 stars. It has excellent acting, directing, costumes, production, photography, and script. Kudos to the cast, crew, and filmmakers.

A young boy is awakened in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve by The Polar Express. He gets on and makes new friends. As they are on their way to the North Pole one of them loses her ticket when it blows out the window.

They get to the North Pole a lot of cool things happen. Things such as rides where the presents are kept and when the boy is given a present by Santa he picks a bell, but he loses. The next day he finds it under the tree. The note on it says that Santa found it on his sleigh. Tom Hanks was excellent in this movie!
